Suspicious Man Watching Sunbathers with Binoculars, Duct Tape Arrested at Eastern Idaho Park

REXBURG, ID — The Rexburg Police Department is asking for the public’s help after responding to a disturbing incident at Porter Park on Sunday afternoon, June 29.

Around 2–3 p.m., dispatch received multiple reports of a suspicious man using binoculars to watch girls sunbathing in the park. Officers arrived and located the suspect, who was found in possession of binoculars and a camera.

According to police, the man initially provided a false name and attempted to flee. When officers physically detained him, the suspect reportedly became violent, striking officers in the face and hands and kneeing one in the chest. Officers used a taser during the arrest after a physical struggle.

Authorities said images of girls at the park were discovered on the man’s phone. He was also found carrying gloves and a roll of duct tape.

Police spoke with several witnesses at the scene but are seeking additional individuals who may have seen anything unusual. Anyone who was at Porter Park between 2 and 3 p.m. on June 29 and witnessed suspicious activity is encouraged to contact Rexburg Police Dispatch at 208-372-5001 or visit the department at 25 E Main Street during business hours.
