COEUR D’ALENE, ID – Law enforcement officials responded to a welfare check on Veterans Memorial Bridge late Sunday night and discovered a deceased individual beneath the structure, according to a media release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:41 p.m. on June 29, officers from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department and deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the bridge, which is located along Interstate 90 east of Coeur d’Alene.

Upon arrival, they located a deceased person beneath the bridge. Preliminary investigation suggests the individual died by suicide.

Authorities stated that there is currently no evidence indicating any connection between this death and recent events in Kootenai County.

No further details—including the identity of the deceased—will be released out of respect for the individual and their family.
