Southern Idaho Man Arrested on Sex Crime Charges Involving Minor; Police Seek Additional Victims

NAMPA, ID – A Nampa man is facing multiple felony charges following a reported sexual assault involving a juvenile, according to the Nampa Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to a residence near Lake Lowell Avenue and Middleton Road at approximately 4:25 a.m. on June 27 after dispatchers received a report of a sexual offense involving a known suspect and a juvenile victim.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Tyler James Schermerhorn of Nampa, was not at the scene when officers arrived. He was later located in a business parking lot in the 2000 block of N. Cassia Street and arrested without incident.

Schermerhorn was booked into the Canyon County Jail and is being held on a $1 million bond. He faces charges of battery with intent to commit a serious felony (Idaho Code 18-911) and sexual battery of a minor child aged 16 or 17 (Idaho Code 18-1508A(1)(a)).

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, further details have not been released to protect the victim. However, investigators say they are concerned there may be additional victims who have not come forward.

Anyone with information related to this incident or other possible cases involving Schermerhorn and underage individuals is urged to contact Nampa Dispatch at 208-465-2257, option 1. The case reference number is N25-37352.
