COLFAX, WA – The Port of Whitman County has finalized a land trade to expand its industrial park at the airport South of Colfax.
According to a press release from the port, the deal will save taxpayers about two million dollars. The port has run out of industrial property at its Business Air Center.
The agency needed to build a bridge over Rebel Flat Creek to access undeveloped port property at the airport near town. That bridge was estimated to cost about two million dollars.
Port staff reached a deal with the locally owned Matark Corporation for a land swap to avoid building the bridge.
The agreement trades the ten acres of inaccessible port land with ten acres from Matark that is accessible at the Business Air Center. The deal will now allow the agency to move ahead with its plans to develop additional industrial ground at its Port of Whitman Business Air Center.
