COEUR D’ALENE, ID – Coeur d’Alene Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Thursday evening, July 3, in the 1400 block of E. Front Avenue, involving multiple victims and a suspect with apparent self-inflicted wounds.
Officers responded to a report of a knife assault at approximately 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police found a male suspect dragging an elderly woman in front of a residence. The suspect complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody at the scene.
According to police, the suspect is a resident of an adult home for individuals with special needs. Investigators say he became upset and, for reasons still unknown, attacked another resident and stabbed a staff member with a kitchen knife. He then reportedly crossed to a nearby residence and assaulted an elderly woman by striking her multiple times.
When officers arrived, they noted the suspect had also sustained multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.
Police provided emergency aid before Coeur d’Alene Fire personnel arrived to assist. All three individuals—the staff member, the elderly woman, and the suspect—were transported to Kootenai Health for further medical care.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
