LAPWAI, ID – A ban on the discharge of fireworks is now in effect on the Nez Perce Reservation due to critically dry and hazardous conditions, tribal officials announced.
The Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee (NPTEC) enacted the ban through a formal motion, citing Section 6-4-8 of the Nez Perce Tribal Code, which authorizes the committee to implement safety measures during emergency or high-risk situations.
Tribal officials said the decision was made to protect the health and safety of community members, as well as the homelands and natural resources of the Nez Perce Reservation.
Tribal law enforcement will be strictly enforcing the ban, and the Nez Perce Tribe is asking for the public’s full cooperation as fire danger remains extremely high across the region.
The tribe expressed appreciation for the community’s support in helping prevent wildfires during the current fire season.
