Walmart Recalls Over 850,000 Ozark Trail Water Bottles Due to Injury Risk

BENTONVILLE, AR – Walmart has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz stainless steel insulated water bottles due to a serious safety hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday.

The recall was prompted by reports that the black screwcap lids on the bottles can eject forcefully when opened—particularly after food, carbonated, or perishable beverages like milk or juice are stored inside for a period of time. This defect poses a significant risk of impact and laceration injuries.

According to the CPSC, three consumers have reported being hit in the face by the lid during use, with two sustaining permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled bottles immediately and return them to any Walmart store for a full refund. The product in question is model number 83-662, sold exclusively at Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com since 2017 for around $15. The silver stainless steel bottle features a black one-piece lid and the Ozark Trail logo on the side.

The bottles were imported by Olympia Tools International Inc. of Covina, California, and Walmart Inc. of Bentonville, Arkansas. They were manufactured in China.

For more information or assistance, consumers can contact Walmart at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT daily, or visit www.walmart.com/help or corporate.walmart.com/recalls.

Consumers experiencing issues with the recall process can also report concerns to the CPSC via its Recall Complaint Form.
