MERIDIAN, ID – A 19-year-old motorcyclist was arrested for reckless driving on Friday, July 11, after allegedly reaching speeds of up to 115 mph on Interstate 84 during morning commute traffic, according to the Idaho State Police.
The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. near milepost 45 in Ada County, when ISP Motors Corporal McConnell observed a red 2007 Yamaha YZFR6 weaving through congested westbound traffic at an extremely high rate of speed. The rider reportedly failed to signal lane changes and navigated narrow gaps between vehicles, endangering surrounding drivers.
Corporal McConnell turned around and paced the motorcycle at speeds between 110 and 115 mph. After activating emergency lights and a siren near milepost 42.5, the rider initially failed to yield but eventually pulled over near milepost 41. The individual was taken into custody without incident.
The case has been referred to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
“Motorcyclists, like all drivers, must obey the law,” said District 3 Patrol Captain Michael Winans. “Excessive speed, unsafe lane changes, and weaving through traffic pose a serious risk to everyone. ISP will continue taking enforcement action to prevent tragedies before they happen.”
ISP emphasized the importance of responsible riding, especially given the potential consequences of high-speed decisions on powerful motorcycles.
