BOISE, ID – After several weeks of steady increases, Idaho gas prices have plateaued, offering a brief reprieve for motorists during the peak of the summer travel season.
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular in Idaho is now $3.48—up just one cent from last week. This marks a 19-cent increase over the past month but remains 12 cents lower than this time last year.
Nationally, the average gas price holds steady at $3.16 per gallon, unchanged from last week. Compared to last year, that figure represents a 36-cent decrease.
Idaho currently ranks seventh in the nation for most expensive fuel, following California ($4.51), Hawaii ($4.48), Washington ($4.40), Oregon ($4.00), Nevada ($3.77), and Alaska ($3.75).
“Any money that stays in our pocket during the busy summer road trip season is a good thing,” said Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho. “But the gap between what we paid a year ago and what we’re paying today is narrowing. Thankfully, the crude oil market has been fairly calm lately, preventing further impacts at the pump.”
Crude oil prices have dropped slightly, with the West Texas Intermediate benchmark trading near $66 per barrel—down $2 from last week and nearly $15 cheaper than a year ago.
Conde advises drivers to consolidate errands and avoid peak traffic times to get the most out of each tank of fuel. Following a record-breaking Fourth of July travel period, AAA expects roadways to remain busy through the rest of the summer.
