CBS Cancels The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

NEW YORK, NY – CBS has canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, bringing an end to the late-night talk show after nearly 10 years on the air with Colbert as host.

The network confirmed the cancellation in a brief statement Friday, but did not provide a specific reason for the decision or a timeline for the show’s final episode. CBS also did not announce a replacement program for the 11:35 p.m. time slot.

The announcement follows comments made by Colbert earlier in the week, in which he criticized CBS’s parent company, Paramount, for settling a $16 million lawsuit filed by Donald Trump. The lawsuit alleged that CBS News deceptively edited an interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Stephen Colbert began hosting The Late Show in September 2015, following the retirement of longtime host David Letterman. The show has been produced at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City.

The program featured celebrity interviews, musical performances, and political commentary, and consistently ranked among the top late-night shows in ratings during Colbert’s tenure.

CBS said more details about its late-night programming plans will be released in the coming weeks.
