BOISE, ID – More than 300 Idaho wildland firefighters and critical fire support staff will receive one-time bonuses of up to $5,000 beginning today, Governor Brad Little announced Friday.
The bonuses, part of a $1 million allocation approved by the Idaho Legislature through the Governor’s “Keeping Promises” plan, aim to recognize the efforts of firefighting personnel and strengthen workforce retention during the height of wildfire season.
“Our firefighters have done an incredible job so far this season of keeping fires small,” Governor Little stated. “These bonuses are a meaningful way to say thank you to our brave Idaho firefighters and the staff who back them up.”
The Idaho Department of Lands, which leads the state’s wildland fire response, will distribute the bonuses as follows:
- $5,000 for permanent foremen
- $3,000 for permanent fire wardens, assistant wardens, storekeepers, and dispatchers
- $2,000 for permanent red-carded staff
- $1,500 for returning seasonal firefighters
- $1,000 for first-year seasonal firefighters
Governor Little emphasized the importance of recognizing both frontline responders and those providing critical behind-the-scenes support, especially as Idaho enters its most active fire period of the year.
