AMERICAN FALLS, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening, August 6, 2025, on Interstate 86 near mile marker 40.

The collision happened at approximately 8:55 p.m. when an 81-year-old man from Bend, Oregon, driving a 2014 Honda Civic, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. The Honda struck a westbound 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a 35-year-old woman from Santa Maria, California.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Power County Sheriff’s Office and Power County EMS. The westbound lanes of I-86 were closed for approximately four hours during the investigation and cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation.
