COLFAX, WA – A 51-year-old Garfield man has pleaded guilty to pointing a pistol at a motorist outside Grumpy’s Tavern. Fritz Henn pleaded guilty to felony 2nd degree assault Friday in Whitman County Superior Court. Henn was arrested by Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputies on May 11th.
He was in the street in front of the tavern in Garfield when he pointed the gun at a man driving a pickup. Patrons in the tavern quickly disarmed Henn. Henn told deputies that he was upset because he thought someone shot his dog. Deputies determined that no one fired at his dog. Since his arrest Henn has successfully completed inpatient alcohol treatment.
Judge Roger Sandberg agreed with the prosecution’s recommendation and sentenced Henn to 5 months in jail. The standard sentencing range in this case is 3 to 9 months. Judge Sandberg credited Henn for time already served in jail and treatment which leaves about two and a half months of jail time. He was also placed on probation for a year and ordered to continue receiving treatment for substance abuse.
