BOISE, ID – Gas prices in Idaho are fluctuating as the state approaches the busy Labor Day travel weekend, according to AAA Idaho.
The average price for a gallon of regular fuel in Idaho sits at $3.51, two cents lower than last week but four cents higher than a month ago. Prices are also down eight cents compared to this time last year. Boise drivers are seeing an increase of two cents, while many other parts of the state experienced declines.
Nationally, the average price remains at $3.13 per gallon, unchanged from last week but two cents lower than a month ago. Compared to last year, U.S. drivers are paying 28 cents less. Idaho continues to rank seventh in the nation for the most expensive gas.
“Obviously, the Treasure Valley drives a lot of gasoline demand in our state. Whether people are commuting or simply passing through, it’s busy out there,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. He noted that prices could shift depending on how many families decide to take last-minute summer trips.
AAA projects that Labor Day travel could meet or surpass previous records, following record-breaking demand during Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. U.S. refineries are keeping up steady production, and crude oil prices have dropped, both of which could provide some relief at the pump. However, Conde cautioned that any surge in demand could add upward pressure on prices.
As of August 18, regional prices in Idaho included:
- Boise – $3.62 (up 2 cents)
- Coeur d’Alene – $3.38 (up 2.5 cents)
- Franklin – $3.37 (down 2 cents)
- Idaho Falls – $3.39 (down 3 cents)
- Lewiston – $3.36 (down 2 cents)
- Pocatello – $3.48 (up 1.5 cents)
- Rexburg – $3.47 (unchanged)
- Twin Falls – $3.51 (down 4 cents)
