CLARKSTON, WA – A Clarkston man has been arrested and a woman is wanted in connection with a theft at Walmart that led to the recovery of more than $1,300 in stolen merchandise, according to the Clarkston Police Department.

Court records say Clarkston Police arrested 24-year-old Ryan M. Robinson on Friday following an investigation into a shoplifting incident reported a week earlier. Robinson faces charges of second-degree theft and obstructing a law enforcement officer. According to the Asotin County Prosecutor’s Office, a second suspect, identified as 29-year-old Mercy J. Borgstrom, is also being sought in relation to the same theft.

According to police, two suspects were seen loading stolen items into a red sedan in the store’s parking lot on August 15. Robinson later fled on foot when contacted by police, while Borgstrom allegedly left separately. Officers impounded the vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, and obtained a search warrant. Inside, they discovered a large amount of merchandise believed to be stolen, along with Robinson’s wallet, pill bottles, and items belonging to a female suspect.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that they say shows Robinson and Borgstrom selecting merchandise, adding it to a cart, and leaving the store without paying.  The stolen items, valued at $1,368.21, were recovered and returned to Walmart.

During an interview after his arrest, Robinson admitted going to Walmart to get items he “needed,” but denied Borgstrom’s involvement. Police noted that Borgstrom has been identified in previous incidents and was confirmed as the female suspect through prior case records.

Robinson remained in custody in Asotin County as of Monday morning.  The Asotin County Prosecutor’s office says charges are pending for Borgstrom.
