CLEARWATER COUNTY, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Monday morning, September 15, 2025, on Forest Service Road 384/Freezeout Road east of Trapper Peak in the Floodwood State Forest.
According to police, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a 1984 Western Star semi tractor driven by a 43-year-old man from Oakesdale, Washington, was traveling eastbound when it drove along the edge of the roadway. The roadway edge gave way under the weight of the vehicle, causing the semi to slide off, roll, and come to rest against trees about 120 feet down a steep embankment south of the road.
The driver, who was the sole occupant and was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene before responders arrived. His next of kin has been notified.
Responders worked for about four and a half hours at the crash site, and the roadway was reopened to travel in the afternoon.
Assisting agencies included the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, Benewah County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Idaho State Communications, and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
The incident remains under investigation.
