Evacuations Reduced Near White Pine Fire as Containment Reaches 78%

LATAH COUNTY, ID — The Latah County Sheriff’s Office has lowered evacuations in the area of the White Pine Fire to Level 1 as crews continue to make progress. Officials reported Thursday that the fire is now 78% contained.

A new Type 3 incident management team is set to assume command of operations on Friday. While containment lines have improved, authorities caution that several closures remain in effect. The U.S. Forest Service has closed multiple roads, trails, and facilities in the area, including Giant White Pine Campground and Laird Park, which remain off-limits due to their proximity to fire activity and their ongoing use by fire personnel.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed about restrictions. A full list of road and trail closures is available through the Forest Service on InciWeb: inciweb.wildfire.gov.
