Wanted Montana Man Barricades Himself in Cottonwood Camper, Later Arrested on Washington Felony Warrants

COTTONWOOD, ID — A multi-agency response led to the arrest of a wanted Montana man in Cottonwood after an hours-long standoff on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified around 4:59 p.m. on October 5 that a wanted subject was in the area. The man, identified as 42-year-old Eric Wright of Kalispell, Montana, was reportedly barricaded inside a camper on Church Street.

Due to the risk involved, the Idaho State Police SWAT team was called to assist. While law enforcement attempted to contact Wright, he sustained a self-inflicted injury. Wright was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood and later airlifted by Life Flight to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene for further treatment.

Wright was arrested on multiple felony warrants out of Whitman County, Washington. No law enforcement officers were injured during the operation.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office credited the cooperation between agencies — including Idaho State Police, Cottonwood Police Department, the City of Cottonwood, St. Mary’s Hospital & Ambulance, Life Flight, and the FBI — for helping bring the situation under control.

The incident remains under investigation.
