Man Arrested After Allegedly Causing Extensive Damage to Fields Near Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE, ID – The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Cottonwood man following an investigation into extensive property damage caused by a vehicle found abandoned near Grangeville.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on October 4, 2025, Idaho County Dispatch received a report of a vehicle involved in significant property damage in the area of Lake Road and Canyon Road.

An Idaho County deputy located the vehicle in a nearby field. The vehicle’s airbags had deployed, and its front bumper was found in a plowed field across Canyon Road. Tire tracks were discovered throughout cultivated fields on both sides of the road that had been prepared for planting.

The investigation determined that approximately 600 acres of agricultural land had been damaged, with losses estimated at more than $6,500.

After a review of the case with the Idaho County Prosecutor’s Office, a felony arrest warrant was issued on October 7, 2025.

On the same day, 22-year-old Tristin Staneart of Cottonwood was arrested for felony malicious injury to property. He was also cited for misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor leaving the scene of a damage accident, misdemeanor driving without privileges, and an infraction for failure to register an operator.
