NAMPA, ID – A Southern Idaho man has been sentenced to life in prison for a series of violent crimes committed against his family, including attempted murder and arson.
On October 8, 2025, District Judge Jonathan Brody sentenced 40-year-old Daniel Colon of Nampa to life imprisonment with a minimum of 25 years before parole eligibility, following his July 2025 conviction on eleven felony and misdemeanor counts. The charges included attempted murder, aggravated arson, and injury to a child.
According to the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office, Colon’s crimes stemmed from a night of terror in which he strangled his wife, Tania Colon, before attempting to detonate an explosive device in her vehicle and set fire to their home while their five children slept inside.
During the sentencing hearing, Tania Colon addressed the court, describing years of abuse and the devastating effects on her family. “He has crafted the perfect mask,” she said. “He knows exactly what he is doing.” She urged the court to impose the maximum sentence, calling her husband a man who “would rather see individuals dead than happy.”
Deputy Prosecutor Tracy Stoff requested a life sentence without parole, calling Colon’s actions “thoughtful and meticulous” and describing him as “a monster behind closed doors.” The defense argued for shorter, fixed terms, but Judge Brody cited the severity of the crimes and the danger posed to the community, labeling Colon’s behavior as a “classic, severe domestic violence pattern of thinking.”
Following the hearing, Canyon County Prosecutor Chris Boyd commended the bravery of Ms. Colon and praised the efforts of the Nampa Police Department and Nampa Fire Department for their investigation.
“Our community will not tolerate domestic violence,” Boyd said. “I hope this sentence sends a message that those who commit these horrific acts against their family members will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
