Idaho Fish and Game Stop Leads to Felony Gun Charge for Registered Sex Offender

LEWISTON, ID – A Lewiston man was arrested after authorities say he was found in possession of a firearm despite being prohibited from doing so under Idaho law.

According to court documents filed by the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office, Evan M. Garcia-Anderson, 33, was contacted by an Idaho Department of Fish and Game Conservation Officer on October 11, 2025, during a patrol in the Craig Mountain area near Zaza Road.

According to court documents, the officer approached a black truck driven by Garcia-Anderson while checking on hunting activity in the area. The officer observed a rifle in the truck and asked to see Garcia-Anderson’s hunting tag, which was a 2025 resident regular deer tag, but the tag was not valid in the unit where they were located.

The officer asked for his driver’s license. Garcia-Anderson provided an Idaho identification card instead. After checking with dispatch, the officer learned that Garcia-Anderson did not have a driver’s license and was listed as a registered sex offender.

The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the stop and confirmed Garcia-Anderson had a prior felony conviction, which made him legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

The officer observed Garcia-Anderson attempting to move a rifle in his vehicle while the officer was writing citations. The rifle was found inside a gun case in the back seat of the truck with a live round in the chamber.

Garcia-Anderson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Nez Perce County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony.

He appeared in Nez Perce County Court on Tuesday.  Judge Karin Seubert released Garcia-Anderson on his own recognizance.
