Fish and Game Hatchery Truck Overturns After Driver Falls Asleep Near Elk River

ELK RIVER, ID — A Fish and Game hatchery truck overturned Thursday morning along Highway 8 near Elk River after the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the crash around 11:04 a.m. on October 16, along with Elk River Ambulance and Elk River Fire. Authorities say the driver, identified as 70-year-old Phillip Wilman of Orofino, was heading east when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck left the roadway, flipped, and came to rest on its side near milepost 49.

Both lanes of Highway 8 were temporarily closed as emergency personnel assessed the driver and worked to recover the vehicle. The roadway reopened just before 6:30 p.m.

Wilman sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.
