AAA: Idaho Gas Prices Continue Gradual Decline as National Average Nears $3

BOISE, ID – Idaho drivers are seeing continued, if modest, relief at the pump as gas prices slowly edge downward. According to AAA, the state’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.44 — down two cents from last week and nine cents from last month, though still three cents higher than a year ago.

Nationally, the average price sits just under $3.04 per gallon, a nickel less than a week ago and 15 cents below last month’s mark.

Idaho currently ranks seventh in the nation for the most expensive fuel, behind California ($4.64), Hawaii ($4.47), Washington ($4.42), Oregon ($4.02), Alaska ($3.86), and Nevada ($3.85).

“Things are still moving in the right direction, but it’s taking a while,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “The good news is that if crude oil prices and fuel demand continue to cool with the arrival of fall weather, we could see bigger savings in the near future.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is trading near $57 per barrel — about $13 less than this time last year. With OPEC having rolled back previous production cuts and domestic crude output remaining high, analysts suggest a potential oversupply could further reduce prices.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration also reported a drop in demand of nearly 500,000 barrels of gasoline per day, adding further downward pressure on fuel costs.

Current average prices around Idaho include:

  • Boise: $3.45
  • Coeur d’Alene: $3.47
  • Franklin: $3.38
  • Idaho Falls: $3.34
  • Lewiston: $3.30
  • Pocatello: $3.38
  • Rexburg: $3.42
  • Twin Falls: $3.43
