LC State Men Within Striking Distance Through 18 Holes at Warrior Invitational

LEWISTON, ID – The LC State Men’s Golf team is just five strokes off the lead after the first round of The Warrior Fall Invitational in a tightly contested tournament at the Lewiston Golf & Country Club.

Oregon Tech leads the team standings at 2-under, 286, College of Idaho is in second at 1-over, 289 and LC State is 3-over, 291. The Warrior’s B team is tied for fifth at 17-over. OIT’s Cayson VanBeekum holds a strong lead individually after a round of 7-under.

“Uncharacteristic mistakes made for a frustrating scoring day for the men,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Getting off to a bad start put us in a hole early but we clawed our way to a spot where we have a chance tomorrow. Work to do tomorrow.”

Sophomore Lucas Ortega leads LC State in fourth place after a round of 10 under, 71 on five birdies. Luke West is one stroke back with an even-par round of 72 after four birdies to sit in a tie for fifth.

One stroke separates West and senior Sondre Andresen who is tied for eighth at 1-over, 73. Freshman Adam Lovatt carded a 3-over, 75 and is tied for 15th, and fellow first year Andrea Artusini is tied for 25th after a 5-over round of 77.

Senior Kye Krall leads the B team for LC State in a tie with Andresen for eighth place. He carded three birdies for a 1-over score of 73.

Jaxon Moon and Casey Johansen are tied for 19th with matching scores of 4-over, 76. Johansen had three birdies in his collegiate debut, all on the front nine. Aaron Brown is tied for 32nd at 8-over through 18 holes.
