WHITE BIRD, ID — Emergency crews rescued a driver Saturday night after a crash detection alert from an iPhone notified authorities of a vehicle that had gone off U.S. Highway 95 in Idaho County.
According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received the automated 911 call around 9:50 p.m. on October 25. A responding deputy located the vehicle approximately 500 feet down an embankment just south of the White Bird Battlefield parking lot, near milepost 227.
Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit, Syringa Ambulance and Extrication, and Salmon River Fire Department personnel assisted in reaching the crash site. First responders extricated the driver and used a rope system to bring the individual back up to the roadway. The driver was taken by ambulance for medical treatment. The vehicle was recovered the following day by Frank’s Towing and Recovery.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for the efforts of volunteers and emergency responders who assisted in the rescue.
