U of I to Honor Veterans with Ceremony and Dinner on November 11

MOSCOW, ID — The University of Idaho will honor the service and sacrifice of military members and veterans with a wreath-laying ceremony and Military Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The public is invited to attend the wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. on the northwest lawn of the Administration Building on the Moscow campus. The event will include performances by bagpipers and buglers and will feature the university’s Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC units. U of I President Scott Green is scheduled to deliver remarks recognizing the military ties within the Vandal community.

Later that evening, the ICCU Arena will host a Military Appreciation Dinner featuring keynote speaker U.S. Sen. Jim Risch. His remarks will focus on honoring Idaho veterans and military-affiliated families. Reservations for the dinner can be made by contacting Brad Martin at 208-885-0935.

This year’s observance coincides with several military milestones, including the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps — all of which were founded in 1775.

The university also announced that the State of Idaho has allocated $8 million to renovate Targhee Hall into a Joint ROTC and Veterans Center. The new facility will unify military commissioning programs and services supporting student veterans on campus.

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, commemorates the end of World War I hostilities on the Western Front with the signing of the armistice on Nov. 11, 1918.
