LEWISTON, ID – The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office reported two collisions Tuesday morning, November 11, on top of Lewiston Hill amid extremely dense fog.
Deputies and State Troopers were already on scene at Mile Marker 317 around 9:42 a.m. responding to a vehicle fire when a collision occurred near their location. Moments later, a second collision happened at the same spot.
Both drivers involved in the second crash were transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. According to the sheriff’s office, both incidents were caused by drivers traveling too fast for the conditions. Reduced visibility from the fog made it difficult to see other vehicles, and neither driver slowed down.
The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to drive cautiously in low-visibility weather. Motorists are urged to slow down, turn headlights on, and move over for emergency vehicles. Deputies also reported several close calls with passing drivers who failed to reduce speed or give emergency responders adequate space.
Authorities emphasized that the collisions could have been avoided with proper caution and attention while driving through adverse weather conditions.
