SALMON, ID – The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible human remains along Salmon River Road on Monday. The discovery was made by an out-of-state fisherman in the Salmon River Canyon.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the fisherman told deputies that he had climbed a hillside to warm himself in the sun when he noticed the remains. Sheriff Bennett and Sgt. Jake Benson responded and located the remains approximately 60 yards off the roadway in a brushy, rocky ravine.
The remains appeared to have been exposed to the elements for several years. A firearm and other evidence, including a handwritten note, were collected at the scene and transported to the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. The remains were released to the Lemhi County Coroner.
The identity of the individual has not been confirmed. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
