MOUNTAIN HOME, ID — Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly wrong-way collision that occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 84, according to a news release from the agency.
Troopers were called to the crash at 1:20 a.m. on Nov. 17 at mile marker 102 in Elmore County. ISP reports that a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with a westbound semi-truck and trailer. The impact caused both vehicles to erupt in flames.
The driver of the Dodge, a 35-year-old man from McGregor, Texas, died at the scene. The 34-year-old semi-truck driver from Riverside, California, was airlifted to a local hospital.
Both westbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for about six and a half hours while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene. As of the latest update, the left westbound lane remains closed. ISP advises travelers to call 511 or visit 511.idaho.gov for current road conditions.
The crash remains under investigation.
