LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a shed fire Tuesday evening in the 900 block of Burrell Avenue after receiving a report of a structure fire at approximately 6:11 p.m.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a small shed behind the main residence. Firefighters quickly began suppression efforts and were able to contain the fire to the shed, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
According to the property owner, a heat lamp had recently been placed inside the shed to provide warmth for chickens. No injuries were reported.
The department responded with three engines, three ambulances, and one chief officer.
As colder weather settles in, the Lewiston Fire Department is reminding residents to use caution with heat lamps in outbuildings or around animals. Officials advise ensuring such equipment is properly secured, kept away from combustible materials, and regularly inspected in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
