GRAYS HARBOR, WA – An investigation is underway after a cow elk was found unlawfully killed at the Bishop Athletic Complex near Aberdeen in Grays Harbor County.
According to a statement from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police, the elk was discovered early Saturday morning, December 20, at the Bishop Athletic Complex near Aberdeen in Grays Harbor County. A citizen reported finding the animal deceased on a soccer field and covered with camouflage netting.
Investigators said the cow elk had been shot in the spine and then stabbed with a knife. No meat was harvested from the animal, which constitutes unlawful waste under state wildlife regulations.
WDFW Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact WDFW Enforcement at 877-933-9847. Tips can also be submitted online through the WDFW website, or by texting or sending photos to WDFWTIP at TIP411 (847411).
Officials said individuals who provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward or bonus points toward special permit hunting opportunities.
The investigation remains ongoing.
