LEWISTON, ID — Trappers in the Lewis-Clark Valley will have a chance to get certified locally this winter, with Idaho Fish and Game offering a wolf trapper education course in Lewiston on January 24.

The Lewiston class will be held at the Idaho Fish and Game Clearwater Regional Office and is part of a series of in-person courses scheduled around the state in early 2026. The one-day course runs about six hours and costs $9.75 .

Wolf trapper certification is required for anyone planning to trap wolves in Idaho. The course covers state trapping laws, ethical trapping practices, safety, avoiding non-target wildlife, and basic trapping methods.

Other upcoming course locations include Idaho Falls and Sandpoint on February 7, and Nampa on February 14. Additional classes are planned statewide, with a full schedule available through Idaho Fish and Game .

A separate basic trapper education course is required for those who have not held an Idaho trapping license prior to July 2011. Trappers who held a license before that date are exempt from the basic course but must still complete the wolf trapper certification.

Registration is required, and space may be limited.
