Idaho, Washington Set to Receive More Than $360 Million Combined in New Rural Health Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. — All 50 states will receive federal funding under a new $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program, according to a press release from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The program, established through federal legislation, will provide funding over five years beginning in 2026. First-year awards will average about $200 million per state, with amounts ranging from roughly $147 million to $281 million.

CMS said the funding is intended to support rural health care systems through workforce support, facility and technology upgrades, expanded emergency services, and increased use of telehealth.

“The projects supported by this grant will help Idahoans in remote areas get the care they need, even long after the program ends,” said U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo.

Idaho is scheduled to receive about $185.9 million in fiscal year 2026, while Washington is expected to receive approximately $181.2 million. Montana’s allocation is listed at about $233.5 million.

Funds will be distributed annually through 2030, with states required to provide updates on program implementation.
