SPOKANE, WA – A woman is in custody following an arson investigation into a fire that damaged property and threatened homes in North Spokane on Tuesday, May 7.
The Spokane Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:28 p.m. reporting a tree on fire in the 500 block of East North Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a shed, a tall pine tree, and a fence fully engulfed in flames. Embers from the fire spread into neighboring yards, sparking smaller grass fires. Spokane Fire Department crews quickly responded and extinguished the flames.
Fire investigators on the scene determined the fire was deliberately set. SPD officers began interviewing witnesses and reviewed nearby security footage, which showed a vehicle leaving the alley just before the fire. The driver, described as a female, became the focus of the investigation.
On the morning of May 8, officers located and arrested 34-year-old Jessie R. Green near 5th Avenue and Cook Street. She was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of First-Degree Arson.
