LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1722 5th Street at approximately 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
Callers reported a fire alarm sounding and someone trying to escape out a window of an apartment. Lewiston Police Officers arrived first and used a fire extinguisher to knockdown the fire and assisted the occupant out of the apartment.
First arriving fire crews finished extinguishing the fire and searched the residence for occupants. The fire was quickly knocked down and the search found two kittens and one dog that were rescued unharmed.
The department responded with three structural engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances and four chief officers. Clarkston Fire Department also responded with one structural engine.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage to the structure was estimated at around $3000.
One occupant was transported for further medical evaluation. There were no firefighter injuries to report.
