Clarkston Man Arrested for Alleged Burglary and Domestic Violence-Related Assault

CLARKSTON, WA – A Clarkston man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a residence on 7th Street, causing extensive property damage and assaulting one person, according to police records.

Clarkston Police responded to the 700 block of 7th Street at approximately 4:00 p.m. on June 1 for a reported burglary in progress. A caller reported that a man had broken a window and was inside the home. Responding officers contacted the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Nathan Charles Babcock, who was found outside the residence and taken into custody without incident.

According to the police report, Babcock admitted to breaking a window at the home. He allegedly stated that he had become emotional and came to the property knowing a specific person would be there.

According to court documents, Babcock is accused of damaging property.  He allegedly kicked a door open and entered the house.  A witness says Babcock charged at a woman. An adult male reportedly intervened and was reportedly shoved into a wall, sustaining a minor injury.

Officers noted a large broken window along with a freshly damaged door frame. A video provided to police reportedly shows the suspect picking up and throwing a brick, then punching the window with his right hand.

Police confirmed the suspect had no legal right to be at the property and was not welcome there by the occupants. The damage to the rental property was estimated at over $1,000.

Babcock was booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Malicious Mischief in the Third Degree and Assault in the Fourth Degree.  The charges also include an enhancement in relation to domestic violence.

Babcock is expected to make his initial court appearance on Monday.
