LEWISTON, ID – A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at Pacific Steel and Recycling, prompting a swift response from the Lewiston Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched at 12:15 p.m. to the business located at 604 12th Street North, where they encountered heavy smoke and active flames in an outdoor storage area containing bales of recycled material.
Firefighters, working alongside on-site personnel and using heavy equipment, were able to isolate and extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby structures or other materials. The fire was contained to the bale storage area.
No injuries were reported among employees or fire crews. The damage is estimated at $5,000.
Lewiston Fire responded with two engines, two chief officers, and three fire investigators.
Officials are reminding the public to dispose of only appropriate materials in blue recycling containers.
