BOISE, ID – Idaho drivers are seeing a sharp rise in fuel prices as summer travel ramps up for its final stretch. AAA reports the state’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $3.53 — up five cents overnight and 11 cents higher than a month ago. While prices remain ten cents lower than this time last year, Idaho still ranks seventh in the nation for the most expensive fuel.
“Drivers are fueling up in droves to cross final summer travel plans off their list,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Lots of vehicles travel from and through the Treasure Valley, Idaho Falls and Pocatello are gateways to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, and Bear Lake is a popular summer destination. Seasonal fuel demand can profoundly affect gas prices.”
The national average sits at $3.16 per gallon, reflecting a modest increase of three cents over the past week.
According to the Energy Information Administration, U.S. gasoline stockpiles dropped by three million barrels, while demand jumped by 200,000 barrels per day — a combination that often puts upward pressure on prices. However, crude oil prices remain relatively steady, with West Texas Intermediate trading near $65 per barrel, about $2 less than a month ago.
