Chance of Severe Thunderstorms Thursday Across Inland Northwest

LEWISTON, ID – The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday as a low-pressure system moves into the region. According to forecasters, there is a 20–40% chance for thunderstorms across the area, with a 15% probability that any of those storms could become severe.

The NWS says that a 15% severe storm risk, as defined by the Storm Prediction Center, means there is a 15% chance that a severe thunderstorm could occur within 25 miles of any given point in the affected area. While that does not guarantee severe weather in any one location, it does signal an elevated threat worth monitoring.

Some of the thunderstorms may bring strong winds, heavy rain, or hail if they become severe. Residents in the darker green shaded areas on Thursday’s forecast maps should stay alert to changing conditions.

The NWS urges residents to watch the skies and be weather-aware, even though not all areas will necessarily experience thunderstorms.
