LAPWAI, ID – The Nez Perce Tribe’s Air Quality Program announced Thursday morning that the air quality advisory for the Nez Perce Reservation will remain in effect as wildfire smoke continues to impact the region. The advisory has been extended through Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10 a.m..
Smoke conditions remain variable, shifting with fire and wind activity. All areas within the reservation are affected, though impacts may differ depending on local conditions. Air quality currently ranges from “Moderate” to “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” on the Air Quality Index (AQI).
During this period, no EPA or Nez Perce Tribe burn permits will be approved. Residents are encouraged to track real-time conditions through the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map and the Idaho Smoke Blog .
Sensitive groups—including infants, children, elders, pregnant women, outdoor workers, and individuals with chronic health conditions such as asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, COPD, heart disease, or diabetes—are especially at risk. Officials advise those populations to limit time outdoors and reduce strenuous activity. If air quality worsens into higher categories, restrictions are recommended for everyone.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare provides resources, including Wildfire Smoke and Your Health guidelines, to help residents protect themselves. For more information, community members can call the Idaho Smoke Information Hotline at 1-800-345-1007.
