LEWISTON, ID – The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has announced that firewood permits for Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area will be available beginning Friday, August 29, and will remain on sale through October 31.
Permits allow the harvest of dead and dying timber on Fish and Game–owned lands within 100 feet of open roads in the management area. To improve access, one gate will be opened to permit holders.
Firewood permits are priced at $10 per cord, with a maximum of five cords per household. They may be purchased at the Idaho Fish and Game office in Lewiston, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will be closed on Labor Day, September 1. Officials remind the public that because Craig Mountain is managed by multiple agencies and private landowners, woodcutters must ensure they have the correct permit for the land they are harvesting.
Woodcutters are prohibited from driving off main roads to collect wood, and violations will be strictly enforced. Officials also urge permit holders to cut safely, avoid blocking roads or trails, and remain mindful of other recreationists in the area.
