PULLMAN, WA – The Whitman County Commissioners have allocated a million dollars to the Port of Whitman County for the agency’s proposed commercialization facility in Pullman.
The commissioners awarded the money from the county’s .09 economic development fund which comes from a portion of local sales tax revenues. The funds will be used for the port’s Technology Transfer and Commercialization Scaling Facility project in the Pullman Industrial Park.
Port officials say the facility will diversify and grow Whitman County’s economy by aligning research efforts at Washington State University and the University of Idaho. The space will allow new and existing companies to develop new technologies and prepare them for commercial use. A 2023 study found that the facility would create up to 100 new high paying jobs in the first five years.
The Whitman County dollars will be allocated over three years to help pay for construction. Once full funding is secured the facility should be operational in two years. Five million dollars has now been earmarked for the project.
