MOSCOW, ID – The University of Idaho will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the P1FCU Kibbie Dome this Saturday as the Vandals host the Utah Tech Trailblazers in the first-ever matchup between the two schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Dome, with coverage on SWX and ESPN+.
The Kibbie Dome, dedicated in 1975, covers 4.5 acres and stands 150 feet tall. Originally constructed as an outdoor stadium in 1971, the Dome’s distinctive barrel-arch roof was constructed in just 28 days in June 1975. Architect Glen Cline, Trus Joist owner Harold “Red” Thomas, and glulam inventor Art Troutner led the project. Funding was supported by students and a $300,000 donation from William H. Kibbie, after whom the stadium is named.
The Dome has hosted hundreds of events, including championships, intramurals, concerts, rodeos, trade shows, religious events, and the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. Idaho Vandal football has recorded 164 wins in the Dome, including a 6-0 record last season. The venue has also been recognized nationally, ranking 26th-best in college football stadiums by ESPN in 2024.
Saturday’s game will include special activities honoring the Dome and Vandal football history. The university has also revived the “Vandal March,” a pregame tradition in which players and coaches walk through the crowd to greet fans before kickoff. Fans are encouraged to attend and celebrate the team and the Dome’s legacy.
On the field, Idaho (1-1) looks to extend its home win streak to eight consecutive games. Quarterback Joshua Wood comes off a career performance, throwing for 281 yards and rushing for 96, totaling four touchdowns and earning Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors. Utah Tech (0-2) is facing its third consecutive Top 25 Big Sky opponent and will join the Big Sky Conference in the 2026 season.
