LEWISTON, ID – The 58-year-old Sequim man accused of going on a rolling shooting spree through the Palouse has been found competent to stand trial in Idaho.
Shawn Johnson is charged with felony 1st degree assault in Nez Perce County Second District Court in Lewiston. Johnson was arrested by Idaho State Police at the bottom of the Lewiston Hill for allegedly shooting at another motorist from his pickup. He was initially found incompetent to stand trial and received treatment from the Idaho State Department of Health. Johnson was found competent during a recent court hearing and is set to have his preliminary hearing on October 15th.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating Johnson for allegedly firing several shots in Whitman County before he crossed into Idaho. WSP believes he fired a round near a Trooper who had a vehicle pulled over on State Route 26 near Colfax. No one was hurt during the shooting spree which occurred on the afternoon of August 6th.
