LEWISTON, ID — Lewiston Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 30th Street and East Main Street at 12:24 p.m. Wednesday.
Lewiston Police arrived first on the scene and used a fire extinguisher to begin knocking down the flames before fire crews entered the home. Firefighters found the residence filled with smoke and an active fire on the stove. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and a search of the residence led to the rescue of two dogs.
In total, 18 Lewiston Fire personnel responded, including three structural engines, three ambulances, one chief officer, and two fire inspectors. Clarkston Fire also assisted with one engine and four firefighters.
No injuries were reported, and both dogs survived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to the home and its contents is estimated between $10,000 and $15,000.
Lewiston Fire Department credited the occupants for keeping interior doors closed and maintaining working smoke detectors, which helped contain the fire and minimize damage.
