Low-Flying Helicopters Expected in Parts of North-Central Idaho During Fish & Game Survey Work

LEWISTON, ID — Idaho Fish and Game is alerting residents that low-flying helicopters will be active over Game Management Units 11, 13, 14, and 18 from December 6–15 as part of seasonal wildlife monitoring operations.

According to the agency, crews will be conducting aerial surveys and capture efforts to radio-collar bighorn sheep and survey mule deer herds. The data collected helps biologists track movement patterns, measure survival rates, and evaluate overall herd productivity — information officials say is essential for long-term species management.

Fish and Game noted that precautions are taken to limit disturbances to wildlife and reduce energy expenditure during winter months. “Human and wildlife safety are our first priorities,” the announcement states, adding that numerous safeguards are in place to minimize impacts.
