LEWISTON, ID – The Nez Perce County Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, January 20, to consider proposed amendments to animal regulations within the Lewiston Area of Impact.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Confluence Conference Room on the first floor of the Nez Perce County Courthouse, located at 1230 Main Street in Lewiston.
The request, identified as TA2025-2, proposes changes to the definition of household pets and animal regulations in the Lewiston City Impact Area. The amendment would add pot-bellied swine to the definition of household pets under Section 101.01.030 and modify Title 112 to allow one male chicken, or rooster, per household in F-1 and F-2 zoning districts.
Currently, roosters and swine are prohibited under Section 112.12.050, which governs animal rights, livestock, and pasture standards. The application was submitted by Renee and Christopher Jenkins.
Members of the public wishing to testify may attend the hearing in person or participate virtually. Information for virtual attendance is included in the public notice. Those seeking additional details may contact Planning and Building Services at (208) 799-3197.
