LEWISTON, ID – A woman is facing two felony grand theft charges after police say she was found sitting inside a stolen box truck early Wednesday morning.

According to court records and an affidavit filed in Nez Perce County District Court, Amber N.K. Grimm, 38, was arrested on January 7 after officers with the Lewiston Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle theft in progress near Pepsi Park.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 7:53 a.m. after a witness reported a box truck had been stolen from Liberty Mart North on 22nd Street N. The witness told dispatchers they followed the truck to the Pepsi Park area, where it stopped under the memorial bridge.

When officers arrived, they found Grimm seated in the driver’s seat of the truck. Police reported Grimm did not comply with commands to exit the vehicle and appeared to be incoherent.

Grimm was eventually removed from the truck, handcuffed, and escorted to a patrol vehicle. Officers reported she was sitting directly on top of the keys to the stolen truck. During a search incident to arrest, police also found Grimm in possession of a company gas card associated with the vehicle.

Investigators later determined the estimated value of the stolen box truck was approximately $18,950, exceeding the felony theft threshold under Idaho law.

Court documents also note that earlier the same morning, Grimm, who is listed in the documents as homeless, allegedly vandalized the interior of a local motel room after being allowed to stay for free overnight due to cold weather. The motel declined to pursue charges, but officers reported property from the room was allegedly later found inside the stolen truck.

Grimm was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail and charged with one count of grand theft and one count of grand theft by unauthorized control or transfer of property, both felonies.

She made her initial appearance in Nez Perce County District Court on Thursday afternoon.  Judge Victoria Olds set bond at $5,000.
