IDAHO FALLS, ID — Two people were arrested following a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 15 earlier this week that ended with a Taser deployment and the recovery of suspected narcotics, according to Idaho State Police.
ISP troopers were called to assist the Idaho Falls Police Department at around 2 p.m. on Feb. 3 as officers attempted to serve a warrant on a vehicle at a rest area near milepost 101 in Bingham County. Authorities say the driver allegedly fled northbound on I-15 after troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
During the pursuit, troopers deployed spike strips, but the vehicle continued traveling north with three flat tires. ISP reported the driver exited and reentered the interstate near milepost 116 before exiting again at the Broadway interchange, where the vehicle allegedly ran a stoplight, drove through a ditch, and came to rest in a nearby parking lot.
After stopping, the driver reportedly fled on foot. Following a brief chase, troopers deployed a Taser and took the driver into custody.
ISP stated the driver was observed allegedly throwing suspected narcotics from the vehicle during the pursuit. The substances were later recovered.
The driver faces multiple charges, including alleged trafficking of fentanyl and methamphetamine, destruction of evidence, felony eluding, and an active warrant out of Bingham County. A female passenger was also arrested and charged with alleged trafficking of fentanyl.
The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho Falls Police Department.
