Lewiston woman arrested on drug charges following early morning welfare check in Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD, ID — A Lewiston woman was arrested early Friday morning following a traffic stop that began as a welfare check in Cottonwood, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies reported that at approximately 2:05 a.m. on March 27, an officer conducting traffic enforcement noticed a woman slouched over inside a vehicle that was not running. The deputy stopped to check on her condition.

During the encounter, a K9 unit alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, prompting a search.

Amanda Branson Spets, 40, of Lewiston, was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a legend drug without a prescription.

The sheriff’s office said the arrest reflects ongoing efforts to address drug-related activity that can pose risks to public safety on roadways.
